Last week was itea and biscuits week. Promoted by Age UK these events are intended to provide an introduction to computers and the internet for older people.
I ran a session in Blyth Library with Hilary Love of Northumberland Libraries. We had a full house of people ranging from complete beginners to those who have their own computers but want to learn a bit more.
With only an hour to spare we could only give people a quick introduction to the many facilities avaialable through the internet. We looked at the BBC website and I explained about watching TV programmes. We explored how to search for information and we looked at places we knew on Google Maps.
As usual we could have spent much longer answering questions and we hope to be able to offer further sessions in future. Subjects that learners are interested in include e-mail and researching family history.
